Delete your OpenVFR account

Last updated: October 2026

You can delete your OpenVFR account and all data associated with it yourself, at any time, from the OpenVFR app on Android or iOS or from the web app. You do not need to reinstall the app: the web app works in any browser.

How to delete your account

In the web app (any browser)

  1. Open app.openvfr.org and sign in with the email address of your account.
  2. Tap your initials in the side menu (left edge of the map) to open the account menu, and choose Profile & passkeys.
  3. Choose Delete account and all data and confirm.
  4. Open the confirmation link we email you (valid for 24 hours).

In the Android or iOS app

  1. Open Settings and go to the Account section.
  2. Tap Delete account and all data, then Send deletion email.
  3. Open the confirmation link we email you (valid for 24 hours).

Nothing is deleted until you open the confirmation link, so a device left signed in can't be used to delete your account. Once you open it, the deletion is immediate and can't be undone.

If you can no longer sign in, open an issue on GitHub asking for account deletion. Don't include your email address there, since issues are public; we'll reply on the issue to arrange it.

What is deleted

Immediately and permanently, from our database:

  • your account: email address, display name and passkeys;
  • your sign-in sessions, including the IP address and device type recorded with them;
  • everything you saved: routes, aircraft profiles, waypoints, settings and flight logs.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Backups. The database is backed up nightly and each backup is kept for 30 days, so your data disappears from the last backup at most 30 days after deletion. Backups are only used to restore the service after a failure.
  • Server logs. Our server logs are size-capped and overwritten automatically as they fill. They record request paths, not coordinates or the content of your data.
  • Emails. Our email provider (Brevo) keeps a delivery record of the sign-in and confirmation emails we sent you, under its own retention policy.
  • Usage counts. Aggregate counts (for example, how many users used the wind service in an hour) don't identify you and are kept.
  • On your devices. Data the app stored on your phone or in your browser (cached weather, settings) stays there until you clear the app's data or uninstall it (in a browser: clear the site data for app.openvfr.org).
